The second ceiling fan I installed (as a replacement).
Unfortunately, the remote control and the controller didn’t communicate reliably. It was like walking around with a cell phone to find a cell tower or another bar trying to find the sweet spot for the controller to “hear” the remote.
So the manufacturer sent a new remote … along with a new controller. Sigh. So I had to uninstall the ceiling fan back to this point to replace the controller (green box).
The two devices seem to communicate properly now, which is good. There was another bonus: the new remote is a different shape. So when I install the identical fan in the adjacent living room, the two fans will have easily distinguishable remote control units. Assuming the new one works as it should…
So my life is still moths, ceiling fans, and Habitat. And an occasional hard-copy Sudoku. :)
