This is in the great hall of Oakham Castle. Any pear of the realm that visits the town has to donate a horseshoe. On this wall there are a few interesting visitors including Queen Elizabeth II which is the central blue one. The top of the chair you can see is where the judge sits as this is still a court house although it's only used once a year now to keep the tradition alive. Horseshoes in Rutland are hung upside down to stop the devil riding in them!
I thought they were supposed to be pinned the other way up to stop the luck draining out - this is really interesting to see, with the alternative reason for hanging them this way up. The horseshoes are fascinating too
