I put a new insect watering hole in the garden this evening as the weather is getting warmer and sunnier again at the moment. I put my watering hole near plenty of flowers. Wonder if any insects will use it?! There are three red tailed bumblebees in the background here but none of the bees in the garden showed an interest in the watering hole whilst I was out.
Enjoying your blog a lot when you put the link up! It looks like large Smarties in the dish, what are they! Ive never thought about an insect watering hole!
Thanks so much for a lovely comment. I don't feel I'm doing to well with 30 Days Wild this year, I feel like I'm pretty much doing the same old things every day and struggling to get beyond the garden!
They 'smarties' are just multicoloured glass nuggets - bought them for school from ebay last year but never used at school. You just put little pebbles/stones/marbles in a shallow dish and put a bit of water in it - insects need places to drink too and these little watering stations give them somewhere safe to land. I keep the water quite low so insects can land and drink but don't drown. I'd not heard of these until 3 or 4 years ago but I think they're worth doing and so simple! First time trying the coloured glass nuggets - thought a colourful plate might attract insects! Don't know if it will work.
I had no idea that insects needed water, I will have to make one tomorrow! By the way, I think you're doing a great job with your 30 days wild, I'm enjoying it.
This is so lovely and colourful. I have a dish outside with just some grey rocks for the same reason. You are doing just fine Louise with your 30 days, I knew I would struggle with it this year which was why I am not participating as much but I do enjoy seeing your pics and reading your blogs greatly. They keep me in touch with nature and I have learn a lot from you too.
@inthecloud5@stephanies Thanks for you kind words! Glad you're enjoying the blog Stephanie :) Sorry I'm not commenting much - it's enough just keeping up with my own photos at the moment though I'm still managing a few comments each day!
