22 spot Ladybird Larva by roachling

22 spot Ladybird Larva

I spent today on a beginners insect identification course today. It wasn't the best for me as I'm a little better than beginner level (I was with people who were there to learn such basics as the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly, or a bee and a hoverfly) but I still learned a few things - I knew it was a course for beginners when I booked but didn't mind as there is always something to be learned.

We found lots of species but I took very few photos and even fewer in focus ones! This is the larva of a 22 spot ladybird.

Interesting, I don't think I have seen yellow ladybird larva before, plus I was just thinking the other day, I haven't seen very many adult ladybirds around this year either.

fascinating. I always like the beginner stuff (and I think I might maybe could need to learn diff between dragon- and damsel-flies.)

Sounds an interesting course and they may have a second part for the intermediate!
