I was driving under a roadway bridge to get to a mosquito trap site when an adult Killdeer ran in front of my truck and started calling plaintively. I stopped and got out to see what was amiss when I spotted this little guy hunkered down in the dirt with his eyes closed trying to be invisible. I know where the name comes from now, not their call but their babies. The little dears are so cute they kill me!!!! Awwwwww........... Awwwwwwwwwwwww. I'm dying here!
BEST little birdie shot I've seen on the sight AND I believe only killdeer.
i was looking at these these other day in my bird book wondering if I'd ever see one and voila you got a shot of one. FAV
I have not seen a young one like this. There are a lot adult birds around my place. I did some reading on them and the article said that the killdeer is up and running as soon as it hatches.
Cute! If you look at the 12 May 2012 entry on my project, you'll see a newly hatched killdeer and three eggs that I found while out walking not far from where I live. :)
I spent some time yesterday retelling this story to my husband and realized I hadn't commented or followed. . .so here I am! I adore this shot. . .and love that you are the kind of person who stops for rescue!
first, I love killdeer! That distinctive screech and the dramatic "look at me I'm injured stay away from my babies" display. But this. This. I just got two new cavities it's so painfully cute!
