I think the bugs are a good addition. I'm so used to seeing them in a closed environment- it's good to be reminded that they grow just like many other plants! The visitors make them a little more interesting.
@granagringa We have both types of orchids all around the place. These are all exotic - they tend to be bigger and showier than the natives - and get more bugs. I don't usually bother spraying - the bugs only cause much damage after the flower has been out for quite a while anyway. Most of the sprays also kill "good"bugs. We've planted most of the ones on trees, but the small terrestrial natives were here already - they are nearly impossible to transplant. It's a good thing they're tough cause we're not here that often.:)
@olivetreeann Thanks Ann - I actually agree with you. There is one nasty little critter that I catch and squash - it lays eggs which burrow into the new shoots of the King Orchids and causes them to wither and die. Otherwise - live and let live :)
