The Howard Smith Wharves were a project initiated by the Queensland Government to provide locals with relief work during the 1930s depression. They were largely abandoned since the 60's, but are now heritage listed and have been developed into an entertainment precinct with restaurants, a brewery, public picnic areas and entertainment - they are extremely popular with locals and tourists. The view from the precinct takes in the Brisbane River and the Storey Bridge.
Beautiful view of the bridge. Love the night shot. Hope the fires aren’t too bad by you. Yesterday I discovered that I could have Siri talk with an Aussie accent.
Great blue hour shot! I am particularly drawn to the lighting on the bridge. I'm glad to see this area has been reclaimed. It actually looks like a really nice spot thanks to this view.
@peadar Hi Peter - it's amazing what they can do with old wharves etc. and still retain their heritage value - so much better than knocking them down and replacing it with some modern building which will be outdated and ugly in 10 years or so! This area is in the heart of our Capital city and has captured everybody's hearts! A big investment by the company involved..
@olivetreeann Hi Ann - this is a great spot - it's been so well done and has become a focal point for locals and tourists - and it's right in the middle of the city. BTW - the colours on the bridge change each week...
@golftragic Hi Marnie - isn't it wonderful what a few lights do to an ugly metal construction when viewed at night. And they change the colour every week. :)
@casablanca It's a great spot Casblanca - and from it you can walk along the river walkway for kilometres in either direction - right up the Museum, Art Gallery, Casino, CBD mall etc. It makes for a good day out.
