Looking back through time.. by robz

Looking back through time..

The post was formed by a returned soldier after WW1 and wired up to support a gate. The granite rock has been there for centuries.....
Nice juxtaposition.

Very much like the leading lines and DoF.

@golftragic Thanks Marnie - the place at Stanthorpe has quite an interesting history tying back to the Soldier's Settlement Scheme after WW1. I love these old fence posts that make the house yard. :)

@robz Oh how fabulous. I wrote my BA Hons thesis on SS in the Mallee post-WW1, fascinating stuff.

@golftragic What a co-incidence. It must have been such an interesting topic for a thesis. Was the scheme successful in the Mallee region. Up here they gave (read that as "sold but you pay later") each soldier 50 acres of uncleared scrub and expected them to be able to make a living from it. Not many managed to be successful and eventually a lot of the 50 acre holdings were amalgamated. Our block consists of 2 adjacent 50 acre lots. Many of the streets are named after the original settler - hence we live in Swans Lane and the Swans still occupy the farm across the road from us. It's fascinating but I can't help but feel that the returned soldiers were treated very badly! :)
