Sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa)

The edible variety of chestnut. These are falling and splitting open but the chestnuts do not appear to have developed, maybe because of the heatwave as even with the recent rain the soil is still quite dry.

Guess you are right about the to long and hot weather we had.. here most fruit is also way to small (but still taste good)
