Take Off! by rosiekerr

Take Off!

I am the worst photographer of birds... just bad. Anyway, I am looking at this duck through my lens, as he is sitting in the water, and the bugger took off as I was focusing. Panic-stricken, I clicked.

A marginal lucky break. Anyway, thanks very much for visiting.
Ducking great shot ;)

Story of my life to get a bird in focus and have it take off before I can click, but in this case, it worked!

Great capture of movement.
April 8th, 2016
Great timing I have to admit I this made me smile it has a comical element to it! It is something about his expression!
April 8th, 2016
The wings look painterly for an interesting effect. I'd love to see the same take off with a shutter speed of 1000 or more
April 8th, 2016
@jgpittenger You know, I had the camera on aperture priority, as a setting. I wasn't paying attention to the fact that my aperture was at 10. Duh. I need to do a better job at looking for the settings before I set out, but I am getting too trusting of my camera (which can do amazing things). Your suggestion is spot-on, thank you!

Love the blur in the wings, it give such a sense of the movement and struggle to get airborne. It would be interesting to see a faster shutter speed, but I have a feeling I'd prefer this one - I guess it depends what effect you are after.

Do you think the duck would do another run for you, would be interesting to compare & contrast?

I like it, have similar luck with birds taking off just as I'm about to click but this looks great!
April 8th, 2016
I agree. Tough to get good "bird" pics. You had perfect timing on this photo. He almost looks like he's coming right at you. Camera shy?

Fabulous capture - those wings are working overtime!
