A photo trip to the now-closed Missouri State Penitentiary. I did this trip last year, enjoyed it so much, that I am back for a second go-around.
Opened in 1836. Apparently, the "bloodiest 47 acres in America." Link is here, in the remote event that you should find yourselves nearby. http://www.missouripentours.com
More to follow, of course. Thanks, so much, for taking time to stop by.
10/1/2020: Finished year 7 (!), with continuing gratitude towards this amazing community. Based in St. Louis, MO. Regular worker-bee and self-taught photography dilettante....
A big difference between then and now. Back then when the law was broken and the person was sent to a place like this if and when they were ever released they more than likely didn't ever want to return. Today jails and prisons seem a lot more tolerable. Many more repeat offenders. Great perspective!
Your gritty treatment of this shot augments its already high visual interest. Your pov is spot-on for showing the scale of the gaol and the ambience. The motley collection of chairs is deliciously incongruous in that setting. All in all great stuff. This gaol is 30 years older than the Old Geelong Gaol, and this one looks even scarier. Fav
fabulous rosie for all the reasons already stated. love the window light gleaming halfway into the shot. back in the day i was a frequent visitor to prisons - this brought back some memories
Wow, wow....love this. I am dipping in and out of 365 at the moment, and the curated page is something I always visit, and found this on there! I wish there were a super like button :)
Love this! Wish it was closer. Jackson Prison (Michigan) is close and they have a museum on site called "Cell Block 7". However, they don't allow photography. How tragic is that?! :(
