I've had a wonderful day with a very good friend photographing this kingfisher and the first shots I got were of the kingfisher with a fish in her beak. I now know that you can identify males from females as the females have an orangey lower beak. The juveniles have black legs and don't develop their orange legs until after the first year. This knowledge has all been picked up from my very good friend.
Thanks for all your kind comments and Favs - it is always much appreciated and especially for getting 2 of my shots from yesterday on PP. Please view this on black if you have the time.
That friend must be a fine person to have such knowledge of this bird and the technical know how to get you in a position to take such a shot. Well done and must say an excellent shot.
Lovely capture Rosie - and I loved reading your narrative too. The kingfisher has been one of my favourite birds since childhood (and looking at a pic of one in a 'Ladybird' book). Fascinating to get a bit of an insight into the differences. Thanks for that.
