I have heard the fieldfares in the fields along Wood Lane but today I actually managed to get a lot of shots of this fellow. Fieldfares have an unmistakable cackle like voice which is hard to describe but once you have heard it, you never fail to recognise it again.
My walk was cut short this morning as a terrible wind got up and it started to rain. This is the tail end of Storm Abigail which is the first time we have named a storm in the UK. Now that I'm back, of course, the sun has come out but I'm waiting for a call from the Doctor who has now just spoken to me. I'm going to hang the washing out and see whether the weather is going to hold and if so, see if I can get some more shots today. In the meantime, I shall post a couple of collages of other birds I have seen in the short walk I had along Wood Lane
Thank you once again for visiting my project and for all the lovely comments you give.
What a wonderful capture of this beautiful bird in flight, Rosie. Love the bit of rusty orange and speckled plumage. I'd never heard of the species before. Thank you for introducing me.
Wonderful shot of a beautiful bird. They really are a striking bird. Strangely enough, I managed to get a shot of my first Fieldfare this year this morning, but nowhere as good as this.
I saw last week some big flocks of Fieldfares and Redwings over the garden flying due south, seemingly in a hurry.
Oh and as I am standing looking out of the back window, writing this on my phone, I have just had my first sighting this winter of my Grey Wagtail. That's the third winter he has appeared, hopefully photos to follow soon.

@rosiekind yes very exotic Rosie! I am staying with friends in Climping near Littlehampton. Great to catch up and they are spoiling me with fabulous food! We went to Selsey Bill today and the sea was wonderful coming over the wall all over the cars in the car park! Very exciting! I love the sea - wish I lived nearer!
