The blue tit parents have been so busy going in and out of the nest box with grubs and suet for the little ones. Apparently, a young blue tit can eat 100 caterpillars per day so with 7 of them to feed, that's a lot of caterpillars! It pleases me though because hopefully they won't keep eating my plants (the caterpillars that is). I can never tell the sex of blue tits but whatever this is - Mum or Dad, he/she looks as though they haven't had time to preen themselves.
The youngsters who are now 12 days old really look like blue tits and there are a couple of them that stretch their wings and really look as though they are getting ready for when they leave the nest but that won't be for another 9 days if the information I have read about is correct.

that is some serious parenting going on. No wonder he or she looks tired. our nest box had a pair of blue tits in and out building, but they seem to have gone away without any young ones arriving which is rather sad.
