This is a very rare wild flower now but a friend told me that there is just one growing in his 6 acre field so I just had to go and get a picture while it is still in flower. Funnily enough there is a fly sitting atop the first lot of petals. I always thought that these were called "bee orchis" in the wild flower books when I was a child. I've just googled it and decided I must have dreamt that! I have now put the Latin name beside it.
Wow Rosie I am so jealous!! I have been out looking for orchids especially this bee orchid which i love - i haven't found any orchids at all!! Lovely capture of this fab flower and the fly is a bonus!! Double Fav if I could!!
