Chirk Castle was originally built in the late 13th century under Edward I's instruction for the English occupation of North Wales. It was bought by Sir Thomas Myddleton in 1595, and was owned by his descendants for the next 400 years. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/chirk-castle
