Found object: good luck charm

This horseshoe was a possession left behind by the previous owner of my house, an old lady who was in her late 90s when she died. It was in the front porch, but when that was replaced, we brought it into the house and hung it near the front door.

A great symbol. This looks as if it was to be used as a trivet? Those "feet" on it surely wouldn't be hammered into a horses' hoof......
