Drill bit by runner365

Drill bit

This is not a money shot - however when one stumbled over one of the two 300 tonnes drill bits used to drill the new Metro tunnel under Copenhagen you take the shot with whatever you have - in my case a phone cam

Wow, what an interesting capture! Nothing wrong with a phone camera when you must get the shot. We've all posted a phone shot or two during our time on 365.

Good to see that they got this one out. A similar piece being used to tunnel under the downtown area of Seattle got stuck and they ended up having to dig down to extract it. An expensive oops!

Amazing machines, they are!

@stray_shooter You're right about the phone shots. I do live 200 meters from where this is taken, but I didn't want to risk missing the shot by heading home for my camera.
When they built the first part of the metro some 10-15 years ago they accidentially flooded the tunnel under the harbour while drilling - that was also a very expensive oops :-)
@domenicododaro Indeed amazing - and this is only the head of it, they drill and cover the walls in concrete tubing in the same process, sadly I never found a way to manage to get acces to seeing that except on film/tv.

Very photogenic...especially in darkness. The drilling process sounds fascinating. I'm left thinking that engineers are creative and practical.
