Spiderman and B. by ruthmouch

Spiderman and B.

These two little ones were happily playing in front of an unfinished building. Shoes were kicked off, a chopping board was home to a large knife and sweet red peppers were being chopped by mum who had popped inside.
Sometimes I find it hard to accept that we are not all blessed with opportunities.
Great photo, they do look sad though.

So there is snow on the ground and they aren't dressed for winter chill?
Their faces tell the story.

It breaks your heart to see young children who are at play and yet not smiling.
January 18th, 2013
Love their expressions.... to me they look very quizzical... and a little sceptical!
January 18th, 2013
Ah, sweet shot!
January 18th, 2013
Aw am worried about their cold feet.

I agree with many of the other comments. These kids don't look happy, and with their shoes off in the snow this tells a story. The question is, does the photo tell the right story, or are these just fleeting expressions?

Beautiful capture, Ruth. My wife would have gone mad to see my granddaughter with bare feet on all that snow.
January 19th, 2013
Bless - I suppose they don't know what they are missing just yet but some kids have so much and some so little. Have you seen that book 'Where Children Sleep' by James Mollison? An eye opener although I ended up thinking that some of the super rich kids were being as damaged as the poor ones.

@rvwalker Very astute Ross, they were pretty serious kids but I didn't manage to catch their smiles, the seemed unsure what their mum would think of this encounter, their shoes were beside them but had been discarded and they were warmly dressed, poor kids never seem to own socks!

A lovely people capture. Hard to say what the story is but I think their faces say they dont expect a lot of life.

a fabulous capture Ruth, makes me very grateful for everything I was lucky enough to be born into

Sad looking little ones..when I saw their bare feet and the snow my heart went out to them.. we should appreciate what we have and not always want more.

even though you say they were happily playing I can't help but look at this photo with a broken heart :( we are so lucky to have what we have to protect us from cold and heat :( makes me what to hug them warm.... your photos are so powerful they tell such stories and capture things that words just can't say. love your work even though it makes me sad sometimes. on the other hand thank you for making me realize how lucky I am and to not take everyday luxuries for granted...
