In blistering 30'C+ sunshine we photographed and catalogued the graves in the Saida Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. Caroline checks the wording on the actual headstones against the official lists provided to us and then tries to sort out the anomalies.
Several interesting stories including 3 German soldiers buried here (burials are all from WWII), two brothers killed on the same day, and one soldier buried under a completely different name. The headstone of one Signalman, I. Jones, read "A great lover of music", he must be Welsh I thought, the records revealed that Ifan was indeed from North Wales.
So now Lebanon's cemeteries will be featured in full as part of the Commonwealth War Graves Photographic Project which provides families with a photograph, of the last resting place in distant lands, of lost loved ones.
