It gave me great pleasure to stitch this...and the kit also included the diagrams for the letters J and U, which were not part of the alphabet in 1782.

IMHO, views well on black.

Gosh this looks lovely - would love to see it in colour though! I never knew before that the letters J and U didn't exist a couple of centuries ago

A lot of hand work went into this. I can see the smooth threads on the counted cross stitch fabric.

That must have taken a lot of time and effort but it's obviously very pleasing when you've finished something like that. Interesting history on the alphabet too. Nice addition to our flash of red February!

i had a similar kit done for a friend's nursery in 1994. i should go and visit them, as the girl would be about 25 by now, and see if i can take a photo. it's a beautiful project and they're a joy to see when finished.
