Paimpont Abbey never fails to surprise me. The sun streaming through this South window was creating this reflection over the door. Meanwhile, another window, out of shot, illuminated the oak pews.

That huge window is one of two, the other is casting light on the pews.
The ceiling is a wooden boat ceiling, so called as it ressembles an upturned boat. The construction of Paimpont Abbey began in 1198...when current building norms weren’t even a twinkle in anyone’s eye!
I'll do a ceiling shot another day and explain more about it.
thanks! a ceiling shot would be most interesting :) I can't imagine a building that old as we just don't have anything like that here (all aboriginal structures were destroyed on invasion here and we were told they did not build dwellings!)

Can be, Yes! However the heating is turned on an hour before Mass, by which time...in theory...the extreme should be much reduced. Such an old church does not enjoy modern amenities. However, everyone dresses accordingly whilst the heating system does its utmost! A 'fresh hour' is unlikely to carry anyone off so easily...she says with impunity ;-)
