This is one of the Bus Stops for College students. Being able to leave one's bike for the day, albeit with an appropriate lock...is a measure of how much trust/faith country folk have in their neighbours rather than opportunists that can be found anywhere. The bus collects students in our neck of the woods circa 8am, returning circa 6pm. A long day with homework yet to be tackled.
Whilst Vignouse is not marked on this schematic map, it is situated just beyond Les Rues Coudées, aka top right on map.

It's perhaps worth mentioning that in this neck of the woods...and many, many more such in rural Brittany...there is a strong sense of community. Families have been here for generations, attended the same schools, same fêtes, lived on and from the land, married into neighbouring families, buried in local churchyards...the full gamut! Whilst there has been significant social and economic change...it's a far cry from modern life as many know it.
Before we had the means of transport, Brittany was an outpost of France...even the roads had no tolls. Indeed, Brittany is the only region in France which has NO toll roads at all...and by default no motorways. Queen Anne de Bretagne, refused to tax roads...pointe finale! As a result, Brittany is a haven of traditional values, accommodating progress in a way that enables all players to be individuals in a much sought region of France.
That is a long day. In Seattle, all personal property is up for grabs due to ineffective law-enforcement policies. A friend of mine just had about $40,000 worth of tools stolen from his car repair business...maddening.
I haven't seen this one - haven't been past that particular spot during the day so am a little surprised to see it locked - there are plenty more in the area that are just left leaning against the bus-stop. Sadly, things will probably change, and sooner rather than later I guess :-(
@s4sayer A fasinating road map.
An aside. I was thinking of you today. I found a small shawl pattern on Ravelry that was written in French. You should have seen me trying to translate it, but I think I got it and started it this afternoon. In case you're a member of ravelry, it's the Ay-Oh Shawl.

Come, see for yourself!

My best guesstimate is that this represents circa 15 km x 15 km/ 10 miles x 10 miles.
