This is one of a pair of very large trees, the other one of which was sadly cut down and left as an anonymous stump. We first came across these particular trees about a year ago while on an evening walk and diverting from the regular path.
The one that was eventually chopped down was then a copsed, long limbed, dead tree and we remarked at the time just how large it was even in that multilated condition. It was akin to coming across the skeleton of a dinosaw (as it had real presence) and although lifeless, was rock solid and still quite impressive even as a husk of what it must've formally been in its prime. I don't know why they decided to get rid of it as it didn't seem to be posing any kind of danger to passerbys or residents.. We walked a little further and found the one seen in the photo, which appeared to be of equal size and age and thankfully, still alive and thriving. The picture doesn't really do justice to its scale (as it is huge)
I added a bit of saturation to the photo to bring out the branches as the original shot was almost obscured by darkness.
What type of trees are they? I remember seeing some similar ones when I was studying in England, and they always piqued my curiosity. They reminded me of Fangorn as well! :)
@moira @cherilyn @wenzi Yes, it came out a little eerie.
@tford I'm not sure, it may be an elm or an oak. I'm really bad with types of trees and recognising them.
@clarissajohal The other one may have been unstable somewhere. I think after it was cropped its time was numbered, sadly.
@emer @katiegc24 It is kind of spooky. Thanks for dropping by. Ps Kate, I like your 'Project duck' and tomorrow I'll post one in honour of Greg :)
