It was a lovely sunny day today, and we decided to head off in the car to Shugborough which is the area where I grew up as kid. This is the bridge that leads across the Seven and Trent rivers which meet to the right of this shot and merge together. Shugborough is the ancestral home of the Earls of Lichfield. You may have heard of Patrick Lichfield who was cousin to the queen and quite a famous photographer (and playboy) in his day. If you've never heard of him, check him out. http://www.chrisbeetles.com/gallery/artist.php?art=2252
The triangular parts of the bridge are from when carriages used to pass over here to get to the estate, so people could move asside and not end up in the river!
The figure in the photo is a small boy. It looks like he's jogging, but he isn't. He was walking behind his father walking the dog, and taking photos as he went along. I think his dad and his dog wanted to cross the bridge and continue the walk, but the boy had other ideas and was enjoying using his camera, checking the photos he'd already taken (which is what he's doing here)
This is a marvelous shot M. As you know I love the sides (which for an American who has not such things is somewhat cool just for its existence alone) and the reason they exist. I love the angle you chose, the burst of sunlight that makes the piece come to life, and the detail you revealed in the stone.
Congrats on getting on the PP hon. These bridges are so neat. We don't have anything like them in the US. Imagine them thinking about the poor person walking when a horse and rider comes barreling over the bridge, how considerate. In the Us, I guess the poor peasant would have ended up in the drink. lol
