This is a memorial that commemorates WW1 1914-1918. Inscribed below his feet it reads, "The great task ended." and under that are all the names of the soldiers who fell, those who came from Stafford and nearby areas. It's a tall plinth. It's a long list. It was snowing heavily when I took this, hence the orange tint to the night sky where the falling snow met the glow of the street lights. I think it gives it an atmosphere of an age passed, mixed with the fire of triumph and relief as he vigorously salutes the old chimney stacks of a town many never saw again, first for those in tribute, then for us.
