@taffy I've never seen anything like it. It seems like a cross between an eider and a scaup.

Myrna, with the all dark bill, I strongly believe it is a male Common Goldeneye in eclipse plumage. I asked some of my Colorado Birders and this is what seems to be the belief of what the duck is. I hope this helps :D
