A friend has a small shop that sells a myriad of interesting things, including these lovely bunches of Proteas. They are locally grown and delivered fresh every Friday. They cost R30 (equivalent to about $3 or £2). Needless to say I often have some around the house!
I'm from Tulbagh, Western Cape, South Africa. Tulbagh is a small farming community.
Get Pushed Challenge: I have been doing this challenge on and off...
@hettie Yes Hettie, only R30 a bunch! There are about 5 or maybe 6 bunches in this shot, You get a fair few flowers and they last for at least two to three weeks!
lovely shot ,A friend of mine is passing through Tulbach some time next month i've told him to pick us up some proteas.I 'll get the name of the shop from you
Spectacularly beautiful array of proteas! I bought a mug with protea design on it when i was in Capetown at the Botanical Garden and I drink coffee out of it all the time!
@ericdibosco Ons is maar baie gelukkig! Ons woon in so n pragtige plek. Jy kan my glo as ek vir jou se ek verstaan hoe bevoorreg ons is en ek waardeur dit elke dag!
My Lunenburg friend, Gill, just back this spring for a visit home to So Africa, gave me a birthday card with her photo of a protea on it, telling me it was a national flower. So gorgeous...all quite like Australia!
@Weezilou Louise, these Proteas are grown on a farm close to where I live. They are grown for export but there are always some that don't meet the standard and a friend of mine sells those. The large pink ones in this photo are King Proteas which feature as one of our national flowers. I am lucky enough to see these Proteas growing all around me.
