And you just see these on the side of the road? Kruger was one of my favorite trips of all time -- do you live close to it? This is a great capture!

Oh my...brave you!! What an amazing shot.

@taffy Taffy unfortunately Kruger is about 1600km from us, a good 2 days drive. If we lived closer we would spend a lot of time there. We followed these three for a while and managed to get passed them. We sat and watched them for a while. A few kilometers down the road we came across a large group with 6 sleeping on the road. We were told that there was around 12 or 13 there. One of the ones sleeping was heavily pregnant. Such an amazing experience to see them like that.

@summerfield Vikki they are smaller than hyena but indeed they are killing machines none the less.

Great shot Sally- striking fur coloring

@loweygrace they are very striking, I have to agree. From what I understand their coat markings are unique with no two dogs having the same markings. A bit like fingerprints.

What a beautiful shot. How amazing to watch & photograph them in their natural habitat!

Fabulous composition. I like the dogs in the shade with the bright light beyond to show the heat of the day. I also like the lack of interaction between them - they're together, but apart.
