Half Moon by salza

Half Moon

For my get pushed challenge from Joan Robillard @joansmor - Take a picture that represents the word "new".

I had hoped to get a smaller cresent moon but the weather hasn't played along! Anyhow this is the new moon on it's way to being full moon.
@joansmor a very loose response to your challenge. I will hopefully get to post something else before the week is done.

i know what you're saying. last night i saw the moon but it was so freaking windy and cold i didn't dare take a photo. it's been bleak the last three weeks sky-wise. great shot, my friend.

A beautiful moon shot as always! I almost went out to take the half moon last night but talked myself out of it. Of course tonight it's too overcast to see the moon. When will I learn?!

Great moon shot Sally. Now, not to be a wet rag, but technically this is last-quarter moon. A new moon is one when the sun illuminates the side away from the earth and appears basically blank to us earthlings....which wouldn't be a very interesting photo anyway. But we'll just keep that between us, OK? ;-)

@stray_shooter Ron I have to disagree with you as this is the first quarter. You can check out this website for confirmation - http://www.moongiant.com/phase/1/5/2017

The first quarter is when the lit side is on the right - it's the first side that get illuminated after a new moon. The last quarter moon is when the left side is illuminated, as it is in your photo......or maybe it's reversed in South Africa? ;-)

@stray_shooter north and south hemisphere do see the moon differently ie flipped. A year or more back Vikki Summerfield and I did a comparison, I will look through my albums and find it and will tag you.

Looks amazing when its on full screen with a black background.

Looks so great on black. The whole world of the moon is engulfed.

It's the moon, as it should be in the Southern Hemisphere. Works well.

@scotthouston indeed, it's the right way up! And the only way that I have ever seen it.
