Freedom? - Day 27 by salza

Freedom? - Day 27

Skye is wondering when she can expect some freedom? We are celebrating Freedom Day under hard lockdown conditions.

Freedom Day is an annual celebration of SA's first non-racial democratic elections. It commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on 27th April 1994. The elections were the first non-racial national elections where everyone of voting age of over 18 from any race group, including foreign citizens permanently resident in South Africa, were allowed to vote. Previously, under the apartheid regime, non-whites in general had only limited rights to vote while black South Africans had no voting rights whatsoever.
Peace, unity, the preservation and the restoration of human dignity hallmark Freedom Day celebrations. The road to democracy was a long and difficult one.
Shame, I really feel for the dogs and their owners that cannot go for the long walks they are used to. But this too shall pass. Hope you are still ok Sally

@mv_wolfie yes, the dogs really don't understand why they are not going out anymore. We are all well thanks. Hope you and your family are doing okay.

A lovely image and so sad you are not allowed to walk the dogs?

Skye is depicting all our moods and feelings, longing for freedom to roam the streets again
Great capture

@pamknowler Pam our hard lockdown means no one can go out unless for groceries, pharmacy or to see a doctor. You cannot even buy hot prepared food. There will be some easing of the lockdown from 1st May but details are still to be finalised. We will probably only find out on Thursday. There is to be some exercise permitted but we haven't been informed as to what

@salza A much harder lockdown than we have here in the UK. We are allowed out to exercise and to walk the dogs. The trouble is as the weather improves people are relaxing and ignoring the rules. There are fines but I don't think it's high enough to deter idiots!!

Let's hope that the right decisions will be made on Thursday Sally. so far it has been good, albeit the poor dogs not being able to run around.

Interesting narrative, thank you.

Your lockdown is do much more severe than ours, poor dogs and humans must be feeling very cooped ip

@30pics4jackiesdiamond indeed Jackie, puts a whole new perspective on the saying 'cabin fever'. At least we have our garden. We live on a very quiet street so we do allow the dogs to go out and have a bit of a sniff around for 5 minutes a couple of times a week. It's was funny watching them initially as they have been taught that they are not allowed to be out there. I pondered whether I would have to put leads on to get them out. They still wait at the door or gate and will only come out if we call them.

Lovely image, an important day both in South Africa as in The Netherlands where we `celebrated` Kingsday today.
Hope for you and your fellow South Africans that the lockdown restrictions will be eased a bit in the coming period

Locked-down on Freedom Day? Poor Skye. I didn't realise you weren't allowed to walk dogs or leave the house for exercise. I hope May 1 sees some lessening of the restrictions.
