Black-shouldered Kite by salza

Black-shouldered Kite

Whilst out horse riding we came across this juvenile Black-shouldered Kite who appeared injured. When we had a closer look we discovered that he had a badly broken wing. We took him to a rehab centre where he will given food, kept warm and quiet tonight. Reassess tomorrow morning but it doesn't sound promising.

Good for you. IT's nice that there was a rehab centre close to take him. I don't think we have any in our area.

Hi, for your Get Push this week, how about shooting opposites?
February 19th, 2017
So pleased you rescued it :)

So sad he's been injured and may not be able to recover the use of his wing, but maybe he'll get a "job" educating people about birds of prey and such. Many of our wildlife rehab places around here do that with the ones who can no longer live in the wild. How often does one get the opportunity to photograph this bird so closely! Great shot.

Poor guy. Hoping for the best. He did give you a great opportunity here.

Wonderfully sharp image. I do hope he is able to recover.
February 19th, 2017
awesome headshot, sally. can it still fly when it heals? if not, will it still be released in the wild?
February 20th, 2017
@homeschoolmom thanks Lisa, that's a cool challenge.
February 20th, 2017
@summerfield Vikki it's doubtful whether the wing will ever function again so it may well be kinder to the bird to euthanase it, sad but reality.

Well done, but how sad. But its fate could have been a lot worse. But upsetting nevertheless.
