Matthias Splitlog built this church for his wife on what is now over looking Grand Lake. He came to this area in 1874 when he was 62. He could neither read or write but supposedly spoke seven languages. He came from Kansas and was a shrewd businessman. He built the first grist mill and also built his own steamboat. Sometime in 1913 Cayuga Springs village burned and only the church and priest house remained. Eventually people moved away from Cayuga Springs. Years later someone bought it and maintains it. They still have services on Sunday.
