We Old Girls Still Got it... by samae

We Old Girls Still Got it...

I bought this bike some 20 years ago. I traded in my trainer for a mountain bike so I could ride the footpaths in England. She's taken me all over England, Scotland, Arizona, Missouri, Tennessee, & Iowa. Now I am re-introducing her to Oklahoma. Feeling like me again! I can now SEE- I can now ride and I can now drive.

As you can see we are still flooded and they are calling for more rain. We are under thunderstorm & flood warnings AGAIN.

To those of you who cycle-- Do you have any suggestions as to how to take your expensive DSLR camera with you while cycling? I am mainly riding paved roads- not mountain biking. Do you carry a back pack? sling bag? I've discovered I take horrible phone pics- probably it's me and my old version phone- but missed some really good photo opps today. Thanks for suggestions.

Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my fox yesterday and putting her on PP.

Appreciate your time for stopping by my project
Looks in good condition, even after all those miles! Sorry, can't help as never learned to ride a bike ...

still going strong it seems... looks very good for a 20 year old bike that made so many adventures together with you...

A lovely "old faithful " and a great pop of colour for your shot - it looks very well looked after ! and I love the bright yellow . Many years since I rode a bike I am afraid ! so no advice !

No rear rack on your bike, so you might have to use a backpack. I sometimes use my rear pannier

Great shot and narrative...I can't give you any advice.

I have one older but gave it to my nephew because of balance issues.

Yay! So happy you can see and be able to ride when the flooding subsides. The weather get crazier every year. :(

Wonderful new tires though

Great low POV, and well composed.

A nicely composed shot of this faithful (and well traveled) friend.

Always use a well padded, light weight backpack when I’m on the bike

Great bike and color! I have both sling and backpack. I like the backpack best for the bike as I don't usually need the camera at a moments notice. Well padded as noted, and I always have "rain gear" for the camera. So happy you can see, drive, ride! Yay!

Go girl, go. I can't ride bikes any more for medical reasons. Sigh.

I wonder if there is a bag that can hang in the front, I remember that I saw a lady who ride around the world had one. It really handy to take it out while you are still on the bike (but not moving).

wow that's a lot of riding - how wonderful!

That's fantastic and glad you're enjoying the road again. I used to carry my (not DSLR) camera in the pocket on top of the back pack bag. I had a pannier set that had a removable back pack that sat on the top of the carrier frame. I knew things in the side pockets of the panniers were vulnerable, after a few cracked lunch boxes, but the top of the carrier seemed safe. I also carried a laptop in that bag as the most protected. Since I changed bikes I've carried the camera in the pannier side pockets - so if the bike goes over it doesn't land on the camera, but on the bag and hopefully protect the camera. I preferred the top of the carrier frame as I could turn around and reach the camera quickly without dismounting.

That sounds like an amazing time the two of you had. So happy for you that uou will soon be off again. I do not have a bike, so doory I cannot give you tips. Carole @ yorkshirekiwi did a cycling trip and she found something for her camera. Good luck 😉

I use a light back pack for camera on a bike and either wrap it in a small towel to keep it padded in the bag or use a small dry bag in case the weather turns.

Glad you are getting a new lease of life with your eyes and your bike! Well done you.

So glad to hear about the improvement of your vision! I have a bike and enjoy riding, but I've never tried taking my real camera along, so I read the responses with interest. My first guess would have been a backpack since I use that when traveling and it should work while riding a bike as well.
June 7th, 2019
@shannejw thanks Shanne! I will see if can find those on my amazon - I did go out this morning wearing my lowepro well padded back pack with only my camera and one lens. It seemed to work but had to find a place to set my bike and then open backpack, I like the idea of the “pack “ laying flat on the rack idea. Easier access. Thanks so much
June 7th, 2019
@chejja thanks Caroline ! Yes starting to feel like me again - I went out today with my lowepro backpack instead of my camelback and it worked out ok. Think first thing is I need. To outfit my bike with a back rack . Happy biking 🚴🏻‍♀️

Mount the boot above the rear wheel. I put some extra things into the panniers (batteries, filters and other small items). I put a tripod on the trunk and fasten it to. I have the camera and lenses in my backpack. He has been traveling for years and works. I just gave up from bag on the steering wheel. It was a bit dangerous. I will look at the archives and I will send you photos of the bike from the route.
