I love this moment as the pod is about to burst open and throw its thousands of seeds everywhere to then become a skeleton very soon after. It is the prettiest lavender colour and bundled shape, easy to miss this happening in my garden right now.
It is an elegant palm, tall and graceful and quick growing, Archontophoenix cunninghamiana. An aussie import common in kiwi urban gardens yet threatens our native nikau due to these seed pods when they burst open and easily germinate. The birds love the seeds and take them for miles.
