Makatote Viaduct by sandradavies

Makatote Viaduct

Word for the day is 'geometry' and is the math of shapes and angles. I took this shot in Sept 2020 while on a road trip.

This is the Makatote Viaduct in NZ Central Nth Island and was opened in 1908. It's one of the tallest railway crossings in NZ and a heritage site. More recently the viaduct was rejuvenated and strengthened and won a London based Award for Structural Heritage in 2017.

What a great combination of shapes and angles. Such a vibrant combination of colours.

@dora Oh great comments Dora thankyou.
@sprphotos When I stopped and saw that red bridge against the bush below I was quite taken back. I'm glad I could capture that image and share the contrast. Appreciate your comments, thank you. Sylvia

@merrelyn - the old structures still have a delight for photographers
@peadar - The rejuvenation included an internal casing that is not visible yet able to take far greater loads on the locomotives.
