I had planned to start showing some of the many pictures I took the other week-end in Sicily but I couldn't resist the temptation of posting this picture I took of a Freesia I have in my garden peeking out from among some geranium leaves. The picture is SOOC - just a little vignette added.
Those who kindly follow me must know by now my passion for history, especially that of my little Island. My particular interest is that between 1530 and 1798 during the time when the Order of the Knights of St John - who in time became synonymous with Malta and are more referred to as Knights of Malta - ruled the Island. Even their eight-pointed cross (signifying the 8 beatitudes) has come to be known as the Malta Cross.
Yesterday, I was reading an article on the Sunday Times - the most popular and prestigious local newspaper. The article written by Dr Giovanni Bonello - a local important personality who is a lawyer, Judge, historian and painter and who until a couple of years ago sat on the European Court of Human Rights, says that "The Order of St John, or more accurately, individual knights of Malta and a good number of well-trained Maltese seamen, had contributed remarkably to the struggles of the American colonies to emancipate themselves from Britain and to gain their nationhood." Anybody interested in reading the whole article may visit the website www.timesofmalta.com. This was very interesting for me because I had never known that the Order was involved in political events outside Europe.
Thank you all for looking and for your lovely comments - which I don't merit - on yesterday's picture.
Oh youhave brought back a long lost memory with this shot. My grandmother grew this flower in her garden and I haven't seen one since in Australia. Lovely point of view.
