Flowers at San Anton. Please enlarge for best view – thank you.
The Palace of San Anton is the official residence of Malta’s president. It has beautiful grounds which are open to the public. When I went there with my grandson, Max, some weeks ago flowers were everywhere. I haven’t had the opportunity of showing you some shots of the place earlier, so here is one.
The palace was built for the French Knight Antoine de Paule from the Langue de Provence, who was elected 54th Grand Master of the Order of St. John in 1623. During colonial times, it was the official residence of the Governor General of Malta.
Joke: A florist purchased an old, run-down, abandoned property with huge grasslands with plans to turn it into a thriving flower enterprise. The fields were grown over with weeds, the buildings were falling apart, and the fences were broken down. During his first day of work, the town preacher stops by to bless the man's work, saying, "May you and God work together to make this the garden of your dreams!" A few months later, the preacher stops by again to call on the florist. Lo and behold, it's a completely different place. The premises are completely rebuilt and in excellent condition fields are covered with all sorts of beautiful flowers. "Amazing!" the preacher says. "Look what God and you have accomplished together!" "Yes, reverend," says the florist, "but remember what the property was like when God was working it alone!"
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments and fav's on yesterday's picture. Very much appreciated.
So many plantings - you just have to do a collage to see the creativity and care! Must have a lot of sun for these sort of flowers to bloom! I like the 'joke' - it does have a moral!
