Santa Maria Delle Scale (Saint Mary of the stairs) is a small fishing village on the east coast of Sicily. We came here on the first evening of our stay in Sicily to have dinner based on fish. It would be a sin to ask for something else in places like this. Christine just did that - she had chicken and we had to tell them in advance so they could get the chicken for her. I do not like fish either normally, but the way these people cook them makes them taste like manna from heaven.
Joke: It was lunchtime at the Max’s nursery school and all the children were lined up by the teachers. Then, as usual, they were led into the canteen. Max quickly noticed that at one end of the dining table was a large pile of apples with the message, "Take ONLY ONE apple each, God is watching." At the other end he noticed was a large pile of Lindt chocolate chip cookies.
Max then whispered to his friend, Sarah, "We can take all the cookies we want. God is watching the apples."
