This is the Malta I’m in love with. During the Summer months – starting June to September – parishes take it in turn to celebrate the feast of their patron saint. Every week-end there are several feasts – we call them ‘festa’ – that take place around the Maltese Islands. The most popular are Santa Maria (The Ascension of Our Lady to heaven) on 15th August and Il-Vittoria (Our Lady of Victory) on 8th September. They are both public holidays and there are a number of parishes dedicated to them and celebrating on the same day.
Parish festas – besides being a religious occasion celebrated in the church – take the form of manifestations of the people living within the particular boundaries and are a great attraction to both Maltese and foreigners visiting the Islands. They are also great money-spinners for mobile kiosks and bars and restaurants.
Wow and many thanks for the amazing comments and fav's on yesterday's picture. I am so very grateful.
