Good Friday in Andalusia is something out of this world. This was the third day of our Easter holiday in Andalusia.
The Spaniards – at least in Andalusia – have a great attachment to the Virgin Mary and every church you enter you find a statue or even more than one of Our Lady of Sorrows. We visited several churches in the morning and saw different representations of Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows – they all had their faces bruised. They ‘copy’ an original statue of Our Lady of Sorrows which is in a church in Seville and which we weren’t able to see because the church was closed in preparation for Holy Week liturgical celebrations.
The image of Mary of Seville is also known for local folklore, most notably its discolored cheek was allegedly caused by a wine bottle thrown by a Protestant drunken rebel at her face which pious legends also claim it has never been able to remove.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
