From my walk to the Corinthia Hotel to take shots of the watchtower and then around St George’s Bay.
This is the Dragonara Casino, advertised as the number one casino in Malta. It is housed within the majestic Dragonara Palace and has been operating since 1964. I have been there once in the 70’s but just to see what it looked like; I never betted a penny though.
Situated on the tip of the ‘Tad-Dragun’ promontory in St Julian’s the Dragonara Palace is one of Malta’s most extraordinary and imposing private properties built in the classical style almost as a grand romantic folly. Built in 1870 as the summer residence of the Marquis Scicluna, the Palace is a landmark property in Malta surrounded by a colonnaded veranda that abuts directly onto the sea. It retains many of the original architectural and interior design features, which have been successfully adapted to the requirements of casino patrons.
Thank you so much for your visits, for your kind comments and for the fav's. - always appreciated.
Lovely shot of this iconic building, your title is perfect too. I have been in quite a few casinos all over the world, but just to have a drink and watch the action ;-)
Hubby and I went to the casino in Monte Carlo and we had just £5 in our pockets for the night out. Mostly we watched, but we did have a brief flutter on the roulette and I won £200! Mad. Had no idea what we were doing! But we have a rule. Right hand pocket for gambling, left hand pocket for winnings and never ever use the left hand pocket money to gamble with. That way you always come out ahead, especially when you only spend as little as we do! Fun to see the position of this one, out there over the water. Must be a lovely view from inside.
Not a gambler ! but this establishment is built on a beautiful spot - I hope not too many losers try to jump into the water in their misery !! sobering thought !!
Lovely sparkle in the water and great catch of the gull. Fantastic location for a building. Casinos aren’t my scene but it looks like a great spot for a walk.
(they didn't even get a nickel from me)
