Vigevano 30 kilometers from Milan,
This is the Ducal Square of my City, is a large square in Rinaissance style, its construction begon in 1492 at the behest of the Duke Ludovico il Moro and was finished in 1494, and welcomed the powerful King of France Charles VII. It is a rectangle134 meters long and 48 meters wide, and surrounded by arcades and arches, all frescoed both inside and outside,as seen in the photo, supported by 84 columns with capitals all different from each other...we call it "Il Salotto" (the living room) because in summer, you can sit at the tables of the bars and admire the frescoes, and perceive the harmony as Arturo Toscanini said when he was brought here. Leonardo Da Vinci, stayed several times in Vigevano, and wandering through the countryside and streets, he was inspired by the designs of the "Ideal City"
The Cathedral, which can be seen, dedicate to Sant' Ambrogio, bishop of Milan, was built in 1532 and finished in 1612, has a Baroque facade, designed by the Spanish bishop and Mathematician Juan Caramuel Lobkowitz, who died here in 1682.
Sorry if I wrote a lot, but there are so many things to say
A beautifully composed photo, with a beautifully composed narrative. I can quite understand why it has been favoured throughout history and to the present day.
I have heard about your city though I have never visited it. You have taken a fabulous shot of the square and those drink and cakes are simply mouthwatering. Fav.
