Memories of Prague

‘The truth and love will always beat the lie and hatred’ Vaclav Havel.

Today was the funeral of Vaclav Havel - former President of Czechoslovakia and first President of the Czech Republic, playwright, essayist, poet, politician. He will always be remembered as a figurehead of truth, human rights and nonviolent resistance.

Prague has a special place in our hearts. Allan went to work there for 6 months in October 1994 - only getting home one week end each month! Before the end of his contract I went for a long week end and he had so much to show me! It is such a beautiful place.
Vaclav Havel was a symbol of hope at that point.
My picture shows photos of the wonderful window in St Vitus Cathedral and the lovely silk scarf, echoing the design on that amazing gold window, that Allan brought home that Christmas. He has a matching tie and also brought hair bands for the girls! The scarf is particularly precious as it was lost and found the next day when I worked in Aberdeen; it had slipped out of my coat sleeve and when I found it under lots of dead leaves I saw how easily it could have been overlooked!
And there are my Prague ear-rings with the little robins, and a lovely puzzle which I must do again soon! Simple memories, and warm thoughts for a special place and it's people!
Very interesting memories and photos. My eldest daughter was born at the time of the Velvet Revolution (she had been due on the day the Berlin Wall came down), momentous times. What a great man Vaclav Havel was.

Beautiful collage of memories. It's been good today to hear on the news about a national leader who had integrity.

Thank you - we need great men and women of integrity from the ground level up too - don't we!

I had a student whose parents had been missionaries in the Czech Republic when I taught. They gave me a box of ornaments that had been made there. I really love them! You have some beautiful keepsakes to remember this lovely country by.
