from a special place and given by a generous friend.
I love the texture and patterns of the wood and it's small enough for a pocket or handbag.
And it reminded me of another friend who, when she was travelling through chemo treatment, had cross stitched a little cross for each of us in our housegroup - that had been a special part of her life before she moved away.
With it was a special note.......A Cross in My Pocket
I carry a cross in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be.
This little cross is not magic,
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm.
It's not for identification
For all the world to see
It's simply an understanding
Between my Savior and me.
When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or a key
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.
It reminds me, too, to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say.
It's also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master
And give themselves to His care.
So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life
If only I'll let Him be.
lovely.... I carry a whale bone cross in my purse, and have done for 27 years. My husband found a beached whale when he was down in the Falklands. He was detached there a month after we got married and was away for 5and half months. He carved it for me.
@abimagery Oh that is such a lovely thing to ready especially the fact that he had carved it for you! You are so close by - have you time for a coffee?
Well Sallie that is a truly wonderful & meaningful verse & something to keep close to us ! I love your hand carved small cross, must have been made with love & hope ! A wonderful gift.
Beautiful poem and and what a lovely gift. Think I've heard the first verse before but not the whole poem. I carry a carved, flexible wooden fish which I love to feel at the bottom of my purse.
What a beautiful little cross. The different tones and markings of the wood are gorgeous and it looks like it would feel smooth and comforting in your hand too. very special text.
