Color Me Happy by sarahsthreads

Color Me Happy

The girls went back to school today after a long break, so Matthew was a bit at odds with himself all morning. I couldn't interest him in playing with anything, and he kept going to the door and sadly asking for "nn-na? ee-la?" (Anna is pretty easy, but Carolyn is a rather a hard name for a toddler to pronounce.)

To try to distract him, I got out crayons and paper. Apparently he thought it would be easier to color if he climbed on the table.

I kind of just went with it, because at least he wasn't pining away at the door for his best sister friends. :)
aww, that is a little sad but very sweet, and a great capture, i love the depth of field and cropping and colors jammies :)

@dianachaplin Thanks! I didn't actually crop him out, I was aiming for the "detail" shot of the crayons on the table with his hand in the background, but I kind of liked the way it also told the story of him kneeling on the table. :)

Hi Sarah

Love the way you've disregarded focus in the foreground leading you to the prize of a little person. Caught the action where it is needed.

Such a sweet story and I love the composition on this. I thought at first he was on the floor. Nicely captured!

This reminds me of my childhood. One of my favorite things was coloring. Cute photo.

Aw, he does miss his sisters. Cute story and sweet little guy.

@noreaster Thank you! If I'd had a little more light, I wish I could have stopped it down a bit so his hand would also have been in focus, but considering that a few short months ago I would never have set my camera to anything over ISO 400 and would have used a flash in this lighting situation, I'm pretty pleased with how this worked out!

@linnypinny Thanks! I did eventually move him to the floor with a huge sheet of paper off a roll. That was fun too, but it was much easier to take pictures when he was on the table. :)
