Christmas In July

So much fun ... especially when folk really go the extra mile to get into the spirit of the theme for the Safari Lunch. Our sleepy little village comes alive with all the folk who have committed to take part in this fun event. There is always a lot of secrecy and excitement. The only thing we know in advance is if we have to prepare a starter, main, or dessert. None of the participants knows who will be arriving at their table until the guests are at the door. And then we have no idea where we will go for the next course until the end of the first course when the envelope is opened and we find where to go next. Nobody eats more than one course with the same people so it is a great way to be forced out of our comfort zones and sit and have a meal with a different group of people to the normal cliques one tends to find oneself in. Timing is critical, and our little town becomes alive with cars going in all directions as we depart one home and head for the next course, finally all ending up together at the yacht club for coffee and liquers.
That sounds like so much fun!! And it sounds like an incredible amount of planning goes into it. If you host a course do you get to leave or do you host the whole night?

A lovely shot of this happy gentleman. When we were younger we did that with a group of friends in Germany. It is still popular and called running dinner ;-)

@beckyk365 It is fun. Everyone gets to host one course for 6 people, and then everyone departs that home and moves on to the next home. Of course those lucky enough to draw the starters have it easier because you are at your home doing the last minute preps when your unknown guests arrive. Those who draw main have to plan and prepare more carefully because it is a bigger meal, and also you will be out somewhere for starters, then rush back home for the final preps before your guests arrive. So we have 3 couples doing each course. And then everyone moves on at a predetermined time to the address indicated on the little note in the sealed envelope. Nobody sits with any of the same people they were with at any other course.

@narayani Thanks Narayani. Andrew and Cheryl are such amazing fun party people and can be counted on to always have some kind of costume to fit the theme.

@seacreature we call that a progressive dinner but your version has a lot of unusual twists in it that sound really fun.
