Some fascinating and amazing wall art in a dirty, poor, and unsafe area near Cape Town where we happened to find ourselves by accident, trying to find a side road to be able to turn around on a main road.
I find this 'unsung art' reassuring. A 40 minute drive from here, beside the canal at Redon, there are several disused warehouses. The local Council has entrusted the exterior decoration of these buildings to the town's Young People (my capitals). There is a time limit, depending on the time of year, so that they are regularly changed/painted over. I think is a great scheme: the artists' work has maximum exposure, their work and contribution to the town is valued...and the style and content are individual, comprehensive and varied.
