Tablecloth on Table Mountain

It's been a tough week. A really tough week, but now I'm in Cape Town to meet Lindy at the airport tonight and have a birthday weekend with my step daughter. In the meantime some unpleasant tasks like going to the police station where Don's death was reported to get a form filled in because otherwise the insurance company won't pay his pension to me "because I might have murdered him"...
This scene at the beach seemed so symbolic. So like the scene just over a month ago, just before his operation. Then it was filled with kite surfers. Filled with life and hope and optimism. Now it is kind of empty and my first thought was a shroud over the mountain but I quickly quenched that thought and had to rethink what Capetonians always call this cloud - the tablecloth
These are tough times for you...and they will pass. I imagine l speak for all who follow you and understand your shock and distress in the way you were treated. Such behaviour leaves me speechless. Again, assuming the reaction of others, you have my wholehearted support. BIG hug.

that might be the reason they need the paperwork - but to actually say it - I'm appalled. Rise above it, Desi. And - in time - the pain will pass.

@s4sayer Thanks so much Margo. The police captain was wonderful when I saw him, and the way he treated me with sympathy and understanding went a long way to overcoming the "hardness" I had encountered in dealing with the insurance company and the coroner's office.

@anniesue Thanks so much, Annie-Sue. Yes they actually said it in those words too

@seacreature I'm speechless. I know insurance companies are generally heartless but they've usually trained their people to use appropriate language while they're being heartless. Sounds like some customer "service" representative could use remedial training. I'm sorry that you had to experience that and happy that the police captain was so sympathetic.

Oh Desi that is so awful! So glad you had a sympathetic policeman and that you will have your step daughter to visit. Amazing scene.

Wow that is just appalling. I just can’t imagine how someone could say actually say that to you.
