Winter is upon us here in the Southern Hemisphere, and so this sailing season has ended as usual with the traditional closing cruise and sail past with salute to the commodore. It was a lovely warm sunshiny day today and so nice to be out, but I believe tomorrow the forecast it for hectic north easterly wind. The sail past was supposed to have been tomorrow but due to the inclement weather forecast they had to bring it forward to today
@narayani Yes absolutely - not a sail in sight. More like a motor past. :) Apparently with these larger keel boats it is not advisable to put sails up in the river because of all the sand banks which restrict the space to tack like the little dinghies, and they need to keep control of their vessels at all times to stay in the channel. They usually only put their sails up once they are exiting the river mouth into the ocean. The river used to be much deeper and more navigable for even very large vessels many years ago, but modern society has built many storage dams along the river so it no longer washes the sand banks out like it used to.
